7 Signs Your Website Is Losing You Customers

Craftnor · 14 July 2026 · 6 min read

A website rarely fails loudly. It just quietly converts a little worse than it should, month after month, until someone finally asks why the enquiries dried up.

These are the seven signs we find most often when we audit a site, in rough order of how much money they tend to cost.

1. Your mobile pages take more than three seconds to load

Over half of your visitors are on a phone, often on a patchy connection. Every additional second before the page becomes usable removes a chunk of them permanently.

Check it honestly: run your own page through a speed test on a mobile profile, not on your office wi-fi with the page already cached.

2. Nobody can tell you what the website is for

Ask three people in your business what the website is supposed to make happen. If you get three different answers, the site is trying to do all of them and succeeding at none.

3. Your homepage talks about you before it talks about them

"Established in 2004, we are a family-run business passionate about quality." Nobody arrived looking for that. They arrived with a problem, and the first screen should show you understand it.

4. There is one contact form for everything

A generic contact page treats a £200 enquiry and a £60,000 enquiry identically, and gives neither any sense of what happens next. Route enquiries by what the person actually needs.

5. Your prices are invisible and unexplained

Hiding price does not stop people judging it. It just moves the judgement somewhere you cannot influence. Ranges plus what affects them beats silence every time.

6. Your proof is adjectives, not evidence

"Creative, passionate, reliable." Every competitor claims the same three. A single named client with a number attached outperforms a page of adjectives.

7. Nothing has changed on it in two years

A static site is not a stable site. Browsers, devices, search behaviour and your competitors all moved. If nothing on the site has changed, it has been getting worse the whole time.

“A website rarely fails loudly. It just converts a little worse each month until someone asks why the enquiries dried up.”
